Reading Instruction for Students with Dyslexia
Patty Iverson, Director
Patty is a graduate of the University of California, Davis and holds Elementary and Secondary School Teaching Credentials in Washington and California. She taught in the public schools as a full-time teacher of art and reading, and as a substitute teacher for all grade levels. She has completed the Comprehensive IMSE Orton-Gillingham Training for teaching reading.
She has also provided care to dozens of infants, toddlers, and pre-K kids as the owner of Sunflower Kids Child Care. She recognizes the early age at which neurodiversity becomes evident, and appreciates the unique qualities of every child. The foundation for cognitive development begins early, and children develop at their own pace.
The journey from birth to adulthood is not strictly linear, and getting support from trusted professionals is often the difference between surviving and thriving. Sunflower Kids opened in 2010, and since that time Patty has enjoyed staying in touch with many of the kids and their parents who participated in her program.
Her current focus on dyslexia and the unique needs of students who have a different way of learning was inspired by working with her grandson. Patty is aware of the challenges associated with dyslexia, ADHD, and the autism spectrum and expanded her studies of child development to include these special areas.
Patty has a diverse background which ranges from the liberal arts (art, dance, creative writing) to proven, practical business experience. She has provided construction project management to non-profit and municipal agencies as well as private companies. She is an entrepreneur who appreciates the advantages of neurodiversity in our culture.
